The Piano Quintet in F minor, Op. 34, by Johannes Brahms was completed during the summer of 1864 and published in 1865. It was dedicated to Her Royal Highness Princess Anna of Hesse. Like most piano quintets composed after Robert Schumann's Piano Quintet (1842), it is written for piano and string quartet (two violins, viola and cello). The work, "often called the crown of his chamber music," began life as a string quintet (completed in 1862 and scored for two violins, viola and two cellos).

Piano Quintet in F Minor, Op. 34: II. Piano Quintet in F Minor, Op. Andante un poco adagio by Clifford Curzon. In MP3 Basket View MP3 Basket. The quintets of Brahms and Dvorak are similar in mood and make an ideal coupling on disc. Curzon and the Budapest combine to make a near perfect ensemble - a true partnership of equals. There is no striving for effect, just a desire to allow the music to speak for itself. The remastering has been very well done and the booklet notes all that could be desired. These are splendid performances which will give continuing pleasure
