European diabolical death/black metal kings BELPHEGOR have successfully finished the drum tracking and bass recordings for their new sinister masterpiece, due on September 15 via Nuclear Blast. This eleventh full-length album is to be titled "Totenritual" and it will present nine new tracks laced with obscure magick and full of furious brutality. Right after the album's release, Serpenth (bass, grunts], Bloodhammer (drums) and the singer, guitarist and founder Helmuth Lehner will embark on an intensive worldwide touring cycle

Totenritual enters mercilessly into the procession of BELPHEGOR's works of art: another thorn in the eye of every upholder of moral standards – the end is heralded. For the recordings of Totenritual, the squad retired to Stage One Studios in Germany and Studio Mischmaschine in Austria. For the diabolic wall of sound, the explosive material was sent across the pond and was refined in the Audiohammer Studios in Florida by Jason Suecof (Mix) and Mark Lewis (Mastering). The debut album The Last Supper (1995) let the community of followers and opponents grow. Inexorably, the band pushes their destructive ways forward in the following years.

Ever since the 90s, Belphegor have been pummelling their listeners with their obscene conjuration of Black Metal and Death Metal, which is fused together exceedingly well. Yet, they have been on a somewhat meandering course for some time now. They have even gone as far as sounding ludicrous on records such as 'Bondage Goat Zombie'. After their last outing, which proved to be somewhat unmemorable, the band have made a return to form with 'Totenritual'. The record erupts with 'Baphomet', signalling a slight change to the usual formula of the band.

Totenritual, the group’s eleventh album in a career spanning well over twenty years could’ve had the band serve up another smattering of th guitars and bellowing vocals, yet the Belphegor crew seem to have found new life in their chosen font of death and draw from it for the gathering on Totenritual. The album again shows the relic of subtlety (which Belphegor tossed a long time ago, in case albums titled Lucifer Incestus and Bondage Goat Zombie didn’t point you in the right direction) cast off in favor of nine tracks fueled by - and introduced numerous times by - the devil.
