Commercial Zone is an album of studio recordings by Public Image Lt. recorded in 1982 and 1983, and released in 1984 by PiL founding guitarist Keith Levene. This Is What You Get (1984) – for this reason, Commercial Zone is often considered to be an earlier/alternative version of that album.

Album (also known as Compact Disc or Cassette depending on the format) is the fifth album by the English rock band Public Image Ltd, released on 27 January 1986. A departure from their previous releases, John Lydon was advised by trusted music producer Bill Laswell to take on an all-star cast of session and trusted musicians, including Steve Vai, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Tony Williams and Ginger Baker. The resulting album gave PiL one of its highest charting songs, "Rise".

Commercial Zone the unreleased follow up album to Flowers of Romance presented PIL as a band in the conventional sense of guitar, bass, drums and vocals for the first time since the unconventional Metal Box ! PIL’s last album Flowers of Romance had been a victory in itself, you lose your influential bass master Jah Wobble – choose not to replace him, but instead create a percussion led album; but what next for PIL? Since Wobbles departure Public Image Limited as a band had a distinct lack of gigs under their belt, just the odd riot in New York’s Ritz Club in 1981 with John Lydon and Ke. .

PiL debuted in October 1978 with "Public Image", a song written while Lydon was still a member of the Sex Pistols. The photography for the album was shot by Dennis Morris who also created the PiL logo. PiL was moving towards a more commercial pop music and dance music direction, and while many new fans found PiL, little of their original audience (or sound) remained. During this interim period, the band released the single "This Is Not a Love Song" in 1983, the song's lyric lampooning the ire from some fans and the music press over the band's movement towards a more commercial style. PiL released the album Happy? in 1987, and during early 1988 were the supporting act of INXS' Kick tour in the US.
