The Gilded Palace of Sin is the first album by the country rock group the Flying Burrito Brothers, released in 1969. It continued Gram Parsons' and Chris Hillman's work in modern country music, fusing traditional sources like folk and country with other forms of popular music like gospel, soul, and psychedelic rock.

The Flying Burrito Brothers are an American country rock band, best known for their influential 1969 debut album, The Gilded Palace of Sin. Although the group is perhaps best known for its connection to band founders Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman (formerly of the Byrds), the group underwent many personnel changes and has existed in various incarnations. A lineup with no original members (and derived from the 2000s-era Burrito Deluxe) currently performs as The Burrito Brothers.

I don’t like the fact that it’s force-packaged with Burrito Deluxe, so I don’t even really want to talk about the second album included in this 2-for-1 purchase; it’s all right, and I certainly wouldn’t want to do without Parsons’ take on the Rolling Stones’ Wild Horses, but I always take a breather after Hippie. This disc presents that album alongside the Bros' second, less transcendent album, Burrito Deluxe. Both albums find Gram doing his thing as usual-country rock when Parsons was the most original name in the game, with some interesting arrangements and usually upper-end songwriting. The first album included here is a classic, and the main reason for purchasing the CD.

The Flying Burrito Bros. Intervention/A&M IR-012 180g LP. Produced by: The Burritos, Larry Marks and Henry Lewy. With Gram Parsons’ help The Byrds recorded Sweetheart of the Rodeo-an album that brought reactionary country music to the ears of hippie-rockers (and more importantly made them like it). Soon thereafter Gram Parsons (real name Ingram Cecil Connor III) split with The Byrds and not long thereafter so did Chris Hillman, who joined up with Parsons to form The Flying Burrito Brothers. The album was a commercial flop (as were both of Gram Parsons’ solo records on Warner Brothers) but its influence on other musicians was enormous. It affected everyone from The Grateful Dead to The Eagles to Elvis Costello, to Wilco and on and on.
