For reasons that remain somewhat ill defined, the concept wasn't quite driven to completion, breaking down around the middle of side two (on the original vinyl configuration). Nonetheless, on strictly musical merits, it's a terrific set of songs that ultimately stands as one of the group's greatest achievements.

The Who Sell Out by The Who Audio CD £. 9. Who's Next by The Who Audio CD £. 0. 'A Quick One While He's Away'' is Townshend's first attempt at a rock opera, perhaps the first in pop music. It's a suite of six episodes, comprising a simple tale of an unfaithful wife who has a quick leg-over with a lover called Ivor and is happily absolved by her husband. Each is a self-contained song, the whole spliced together in much the same way as Abbey Road's long medley would be, three years later

In the US The Who Sell Out was released on 6 January 1968 (Decca DL 4950, DL 74950 ) followed by the CD (MCA MCAD-31332) in the 1980s and remastered CD (MCAD-11268) in 1995. Disc Two consisted of the original 13 tracks in mono plus ten bonus tracks and out-takes

The Who - A Quick One, While He's Away. Written by Pete Townshend Recorded at IBC Studios, Pye Studios and Regent Sound, London in the autumn of 1966. Pete's first rock opera contains six. The Who - Heinz Baked Beans (with lyrics). The Who Sell Out, 1967 Picture: Roger Daltrey. The Who - Mary Anne With The Shaky Hand. The Who - Our Love Was. The Who - I Can See For Miles. The Who - Silas Stingy. By. Rolling Stone. Rolling Stone's Most Recent Stories. NBC Premieres New Series ‘Songland’ at Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood. An Update on the Rolling Stone Charts. The First Time: Willie Nelson. This album is fantastic, it has an exquisite sense of humor (songs of the humbly homespun) and consummate musicianship. The cover, of course, is amazingly funny: deodorant, pimple cream, baked beans and the Charles Atlas course, each shot perfectly suited to the character of the person in the group. It’s almost too English. The first thing you are going to see are the commercial plugs and Radio London spots. They take various forms; the cover is the first.

I just bought this double release and listening to "The Who Sell Out" as i type. As i listened to "Armenia" all i could really hear was the signing and couldnt really hear the guitaring or drumming at all, as if it was almost an acapella version. I thought it was my record player but every other lp and every other song on the double release sound fine. Is this a version of "Armenia" i'm simply not aware of or is it the record itself?ThanksDanny

Yes, same here. Played them last night and was disappointed by the playback on both. I think I'll seek out a different pressing.

Mine is the same. A Quick One is kind of ok, but less keen on Sell Out in this package. Side 2 seems pressed slightly off centre and is hard to listen to particularly near the end of that side.

Do you know if the song Heinz Baked Beans is included?? Thanks!!
