Stage is David Bowie's second live album, recorded on the Isolar II Tour, and released by RCA Records in 1978. Though it was rumouredat the time that this would be his final outing with the label, following dissatisfaction over the promotion of Low and "Heroes", Bowie remained with RCA until 1982.

The album cover shows David Bowie (dressed as Ziggy Stardust) standing outside the furriers, K. West, which was located at 23 Heddon Street, London. This plaque is the one of the few in the UK dedicated to a fictional character. While doing an interview in character as Ziggy Stardust, Bowie admitted he was gay. This gave him a great deal of publicity, even though it was not entirely true. Bowie later married the model Iman

The album features glam rock tracks Bowie writes alongside his Spiders From Mars guitarist Mick Ronson on tracks like Hang on to Yourself and Suffragette City with an irresistible blend of sexy, campy pop and blues power. The anthem Ziggy Stardust is one of Rock’s earliest and best power ballads. The documentary was filmed at the same concert in 1973, where Bowie decided to retire the Ziggy Stardust persona. This album was also selected by the Library of Congress, for preservation in the National Recording Registry, in 2017. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars Q&A.

David Bowie was halfway through writing a concept album about George Orwell's classic novel 1984 when he ran into a tiny snag: Orwell's estate denied him the rights to the book. Rather than start from scratch, Bowie opted to put some of the songs on a more traditional glam rock album. Diamond Dogs is a farewell to the already fading glam scene. On the cover, Bowie still has his Ziggy hair, but he's already morphing into some other creature. The songs on Ziggy Stardust represent the high point of the entire glam movement. Also, Bowie was reborn onstage as Ziggy Stardust, providing a much-needed rock star in an otherwise bleak music landscape. Even better, parents hated him. Bowie has had bigger hits and more acclaimed albums, but never in his career did he seem quite as important or refreshing. This is the Bowie album that will be in the history books.

There were a lot of tracks recorded for Ziggy that didn’t make the album ( most of them I had forgotten about until I began mixing Ziggy for . release recently) - Velvet Goldmine, Bombers Holy Holy and Jaque Brel’s Port of Amsterdam. If I remember correctly, for Velvet Goldmine we put a lot of work into it and so it was fairly finished, Bombers was only somewhat finished, Port of Amsterdam was David with just an acoustic guitar, and Holy Holy was only a basic track and I don’t think we even got a good one. Originally one of the tracks. As I said before, David is an amazing singer, and 95% of his vocals on Ziggy and every other album I recorded with him were done in a single take. There was one completely calculated exception however.

You like David Bowie? His early work was a little too jazzy for my taste, but when Hunky Dory came out in '71, I think he really came into the mainstream, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Freddie Mercury and Alice Cooper, but I think Bowie had a far more flamboyant, androgynous sense of style. In '72, Bowie released this, The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spider From Mars, his most critically acclaimed album
