Take Cover is the tenth studio album by Seattle-based progressive metal band Queensrÿche, released on November 13, 2007. It consists of cover versions. The idea to release an album of cover songs came from a game of "name the riff" guitarists Michael Wilton and Mike Stone would play during sound checks. The band members agreed to each choose two songs to record for the album. Its release was announced by the band on August 28, 2007

Now here's a weird one: Queensrÿche's covers album. Given their long run, and the rock & roll tradition the band's members have come from and indulged in as individual listeners, it shouldn't perhaps be a surprise that they'd be interested in everything from Pink Floyd to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Queen, Black Sabbath, Gamble & Huff, the Police, U2, and Peter Gabriel (oh yeah, and the score of Jesus.

Considering the otherwise bad ass looking album cover and that this was chasing a respectable semi-return to form in 2006's Operation: Mindcrime II, the last thing to be expected here is a sad fit of backsliding into the muddled, meandering drudgery that has dogged this band since the mid-1990s, but that's what is in full view here. But hearing a (once) commercially successful outfit like Queensrÿche tackle an eclectic selection as they do here is always a risky proposition, and Take Cover's few worthwhile tributes simply do not compensate for all the missed opportunities and bland rock reductions of tracks that once possessed a spark of actual life in their earlier incarnations.

Their highly anticipated release after Empire, Promised Land, was, in my opinion, their last feeble effort at creating anything of quality, with scatterings of good song ideas here and there, but none of them ever really reaching either full potential.
