While Faith Hope Love isn't quite as strong as Gretchen Goes to Nebraska, the CD illustrates the band's imaginative, ambitious nature and proved to be its commercial breakthrough. Tracks like "Six Broken Soldiers," "Fine Art of Friendship," and the hit "It's Love" may have been inspired by Christianity, but they don't force it down anyone's throat.

They released their third album "Faith Hope Love" (1990), which included the Beatles-sounding Ty Tabor sung track "It's Love", which received much radio and video airplay. Their 4th release, the self-titled "King's X" (1992) was their first album released on Atlantic Records without the Megaforce label. During this time however, the band members had a falling out with their manager, Sam Taylor.
