Acoustics is an album by American guitarist Tony Rice, released originally on November 30, 1978. Album was recorded soon after Rice left David Grisman Quintet to pursue his own music. On Acoustics album, he merges different genres like jazz, bluegrass and folk, which would become later on known as "new acoustic music". All songs by Tony Rice unless otherwise noted. Blues for Paradise" – 3:43. Old Gray Coat" – 3:53. Four on Six" (Wes Montgomery) – 3:41.
But as Rice's warm singing on "Hills of Roane County" and "Banks of the Ohio" and his fiery flatpicking on "Big Mon" and "Farewell Blues" attest, this is also a very fine straight bluegrass album. It's difficult to pick out highlights, but the joyful "Eighth of January" and the wonderful twin fiddle arrangement on "Big Mon" are both definite showstoppers.
