Fisk was the last direct pupil of Andrés Segovia and is the holder of all reproduction rights to Segovia’s music, given to him by Segovia’s wife, Emilia. After attending Jamesville-Dewitt High School in Dewitt, New York, Fisk also studied interpretation under harpsichordists Ralph Kirkpatrick and Albert Fuller at Yale University, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1976. Transcriptions, commissions. Fisk turned these compositions into Segovia: Canciones Populares, which became a bestseller on the Classical Album chart of Billboard magazine. His transcription of violinist Niccolò Paganini's 24 Caprices also entered the chart and was widely praised. He collaborated with Ernesto Halffter, at the request of Segovia, on Halffter's Concierto for Guitar and Orchestra, which was performed with the Spanish National Orchestra and then turned into an album. Eliot Fisk Performs Baroque Guitar Transcriptions. Eliot Fisk plays beautifully on this recording. The choice of material is very interesting and refreshing and the interpretations are lively and intelligent as well as very romantic and beautiful. Fisk plays very appropriately for the music he selects, much of which falls solidly in the early 20th Century Segovia style.
