I'm Your Man is the eighth studio album by Leonard Cohen, released in 1988. The album marked Cohen's further move to a more modern sound, with many songs having a synth-oriented production. I'm Your Man was recorded in Los Angeles and Montreal and employed four producers: Roscoe Beck, Jean-Michel Reusser, Michel Robidoux, and Cohen himself.
Lyrics: If you want a boxer I will step into the ring for you And if you want a doctor I'll examine every inch of you If you want a driver, climb inside Or if you want to take me for a ride You know you can I'm your man" (C) 2014. Sony Music Entertainment.
In his book Leonard Cohen: A Remarkable Life, biographer Anthony Reynolds observes, . .Although Cohen had earned a reputation among critics and some listeners for excessive gloominess, several tracks on the album displayed his wry sense of humor and playfulness, such as the lascivious title track and "I Can't Forget," which he cited in a BBC interview with John Archer after the album's release as an example of his simpler approach: "I had to.
The title song from his 1988 album and a staple in all Leonard Cohen concerts, I’m Your Man is also the title of the 2006 Leonard Cohen 2006 tribute film. The lyrics revolve around a single, simple theme, framed by the lines that begin and end the song. If you want a lover I’ll do anything you ask me to And if you want another kind of love I’ll wear a mask for you. He’s in love: anything his beloved wants him to be, he will be. "I’m Your Man" Track Info. Written By Leonard Cohen. Recorded At Studio Tempo, Montreal (Quebec) and Rock Steady, Los Angeles.
Leonard Cohen appeared on seven of his album covers before 1988, always looking cooler and wiser than his listeners: he was the saturnine poet, the seductive man of the world. On the cover of I’m Your Man he looks better than ever, with his sunglasses and impeccable pinstripe suit-except that he’s eating a banana, the slapstick fruit. James Dean would not have looked cool eating a banana. Gandhi would not have looked wise. Cohen’s publicist Sharon Weisz snapped the picture at the video shoot for Jennifer Warnes’ version of First We Take Manhattan and thought nothing of it, but Cohen thought.
I put on Leonard Cohen a lot, and especially I’m Your Man. He’s very satisfying, like a long drink of water. Bill Pritchard, covered the title track to I’m Your Man on the 1991 tribute album I’m Your Fan. When I was at school in the mid to late seventies a lot of people thought I was weird listening to The Songs of Leonard Cohen album, but it was always about the songs and the great lyrics for me. Then a lo-fi sound with almost cheesy synths came along, still with great songs and great lyrics the album I’m Your Man. The simple synthetic backing for me just accentuates the true earthy lyrics and great tunes. I also found it very funny!
You know you can. I'm your ma.
As a soundtrack for Lian Lunson's film Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man, Hal Willner's choices from the two overseas evenings of Came So Far for Beauty: An Evening of Leonard Cohen Songs recorded in Brighton and Sydney - the original was in Brooklyn - are exceptionally well done. The rest of this program, however, is utterly fine, beautiful, raw, and immediate.
