If Not Now Then When is a compilation album containing material from the new wave band, The Motels, plus solo work by Martha Davis. This two disc album is a collection of twenty-seven rare tracks, demos, and recent recordings spanning 2002 to 2006, and outtakes from Davis' solo albums. So the Story Goes and Beautiful Life. Fifteen of the tracks are previously unreleased.
Ethan Johns is just as gently majestic when behind the mic. He might have made a solid name for himself on the other side of the studio glass as a producer for Laura Marling, Ryan Adams and The Vaccines, but Ethan Johns is just as gently majestic when behind the mic. Quite rightly named Best British Producer at last year’s Brit Awards, Johns’ 10-track debut solo album is a placid but gutsy amble that pitches him as Bill Callahan dealing with a lazy hangover the morning after a pub crawl with Guy Garvey. As well as the coy croon of album opener ‘Hello Sunshine’ and the softly devastating ‘Whip.

Ethan Johns is a well known record producer, having worked with artist including Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams, Ray LaMontage to name a few. If Not Now Then When is his first solo album. We illustrated a picture inspired by each of the songs on the album. He had typed out all the lyrics on an old typewriter so we found it perfect to use those for the booklet. Art direction and design by me and illustrations done by Erla María Árnadóttir.
