Alkaline Trio is a compilation album by the Chicago-based punk rock band Alkaline Trio, released April 18, 2000 through Asian Man Records. It includes all of the tracks from their EPs For Your Lungs Only (1998) and I Lied My Face Off (1999), as well as both tracks from the "Sundials" single (1997) and several tracks from other compilations. By August 2008, the album sold 85,000 copies

Good Mourning is the handsome if dark-eyed offspring of the deliberately melodic From Here to Infirmary LP and Alkaline Trio's more raucous earlier work. Whether or not the band "sold out" (or whatever) when Infirmary arrived with the stamp of ambitious indie Vagrant, the set nevertheless seemed forced. It's an album that kills with catchiness.

With ’03’s ‘Good Mourning’, Alkaline Trio had stepped out of the Chicago underground and become one of punk rock’s greatest mainstream prospects. For the first time online, read the hectic story of its creation, told by the band themselves. This feature originally appeared in Issue 160 of Rock Sound (May 2012). Every good record has a story, and ‘Good Mourning’’s is particularly colourful. Their second album for Vagrant, it saw Alkaline Trio not only welcoming a new drummer into the fold (for the third album running), but it also saw frontman Matt Skiba penning lyrics at his lowest eb. erek Grant (drums): Dan and I had known each other for a long time from running into each other on the road. Word started getting around that Alkaline Trio might be looking for a new drummer and I get a phone call from their manager and it kind of went from there.

Good Mourning features a slight departure from the earlier Alkaline Trio sound. The album makes use of the occasional layered guitar parts and contains a somewhat darker mood than their previous work. Of note is the different vocal styles featured on the album. Matt Skiba provides a somewhat raspy tone that fits the faster standard punk songs, whilst conveying a sense of emotion that is key to the lyrical context. Dan Andriano makes use of a slower more well-rounded style that puts greater focus on the instrumental performance, although his vocals are still quite commanding.
