First Love, Last Rites is one of the more interesting motion picture soundtracks to come along in recent times. All of the songs have a strong retro feel, since the music is originating from an oldies radio station throughout the movie.
Music from the Motion Picture is an album by 10,000 Maniacs. The album, their first full-length in 14 years, contains eleven original songs. This album is the first to feature guitarist Jeff Erickson since he took over for Robert Buck following his death in 2000, and the first Maniacs album to feature Mary Ramsey without her longtime music partner, John Lombardo.

The filming of this movie is beautiful and well planned, however it doesn't make up for what, in my mind, the story lacks. At times the peculiarity of the events (and of Robert John Burke's failed attempt at a Creole accent) made me cringe.
First Love, Last Rites by Shudder to Think (Soundtrack)(Album CD,1998,Epic(USA)). Last Rites fortunately don´t sound like a clone of any of those mentioned artists, and although I wouldn´t exactly call their music original either, there´s good quality here in the songwriting department. This is aggressive, powerful, and very effective thrash/death metal with a rabid dog snarling vocalist in front.
