All The Blue Changes - An Anthology 1988–2003 is a double CD compilation by British Art Rock group No-Man, spanning their entire career – from the Speak sessions in 1988 up until the release of Together We're Stranger in 2003. Many songs are unreleased versions of No-Man songs. The version of "Days In The Trees" which appears on "All The Blue Changes" is a different mix of the "Mahler" version which made considerable impact when released as a single – it also features a longer fadeout than the other versions.
The rich sonic landscapes make this album shine, often bringing to mind Moby supplying the music for Bryan Ferry or Depeche Mode's David Gahan. Some tracks take a tad longer to gel, including the funky bassline propelling the jazzy, almost improvisational, and midtempo "Walker," while others such as "Back to the Burning Shed" are reflective, instrumental interludes. No-Man are consistently great in what they do best, creating fine pieces of music such as the yearning "Returning Jesus" and "Chelsea Cap," the latter sure to seduce the listener. And they also manage to put the icing on this rich, quality musical cake with the d "Photograph in Black and White.
Together We're Stranger is No-Man's fifth studio album released by the Snapper Music label in 2003. Atmospheric and ambitious, this aspect of the album in some way recalls the more ambient elements of Pink Floyd, Brian Eno and Miles Davis and the later experiments of Mark Hollis/Talk Talk.
No-Man’s debut mini-album (a compilation of EP tracks called Lovesighs - An Entertainment) was released in April 1992, and in October of the same year the band toured England with a six-piece line-up including three ex-members of the band Japan – Mick Karn, Steve Jansen and (most significantly) keyboardist Richard Barbieri, who had been recruited by Massey. The band's first full-length album (the more pop-oriented Loveblows & Lovecries - A Confession) followed in May 1993. By this time, the live band included bass player Silas Maitland and the (unrelated) drummer Chris Maitland. All The Blue Changes - An Anthology 1988–2003 (2006, Hidden Art, HI-ART 19) – Compilation with some unreleased versions and an unreleased track. Singles and EPs. As No Man Is an Island.
