Sheila Cecelia Escovedo (born December 12, 1957), better known under the stage name Sheila . is an American percussionist, singer, author, and actress. She began her career in the mid-1970s as a percussionist and singer for The George Duke Band. After leaving the group in 1983, Sheila began a successful solo career, starting with her critically acclaimed debut album, which included the career-defining song, "The Glamorous Life"
One of life’s constants for Sheila E. comes down to a simple phrase: follow the beat. And her impeccable inner rhythm is the pulse behind a trailblazing career. that still knows no bounds. These career checkpoints all converge in 2014 with two new Sheila E. projects. Coming soon is the release of her first album in 13 years, the aptly titled Icon (Stiletto Flats, March 25, 2014). Leading the charge is first single, Mona Lisa.
For three decades, Sheila E. has been a dynamic and influential musician-moving and entertaining others as a percussionist, singer, songwriter, and more. Since debuting in with her first solo album, The Glamorous Life, Sheila has continued to evolve as a musical icon and inspirational figure.
Sheila E will release her new album entitled "Icon" on 4 (France)/8 (Europe) November. Not sure when the US release date will be. The album will be distributed by the German label Moosicus and will feature MC Lyte and Eddie M among others. Some song titles include: Mona Lisa, Leader Of The Band, Nasty Thang featuring Mc Lyte, Old Skool feat. Eddie M and Girl Like Me featuring Ledisi. Looks like some or all of the songs from the From E 2 U EP are going to be included.
Sheila E. is the third solo album by Sheila . released on Paisley Park Records in July 1987. Two singles were released from the album in the . "Hold Me" and "Koo Koo". Love on a Blue Train" was the first single released in Japan. The album is notable for its Latin influence and prominent presence in this hybrid of jazz, rock, funk and salsa. The video for "Koo Koo" shows Sheila dancing with Cat Glover.
