While it's hardly their best effort, ¡Adios Amigos! is an admirable way to bow out. The Ramones haven't progressed much since the mid-'80s, yet they have recaptured a bit of the inspiration that fueled their last great album, Too Tough to Die. Even with the extra kick of energy, there are moments on the album that veer too close to self-parody - even the grungy stomp through Tom Waits' "I Don't Wanna Grow Up," one of the record's best moments, seems forced
Adiós Amigos! is the fourteenth and final studio album by the American punk rock band the Ramones. The Ramones disbanded a year after its release and subsequent tour. All four of their original members (Joey Ramone, Johnny Ramone, Dee Dee Ramone and Tommy Ramone) died within two decades of the album's release. In a reverse decision, many tracks on ¡Adiós Amigos! are performed at a slower pace because of Joey's maturing, ailing vocals, a factor the band had acknowledged in previous years.
