Hip Hop Is Dead is the eighth studio album by American rapper Nas, released December 19, 2006 on Def Jam Recordings. His first album for the label, it was co-financed by Nas's previous label, Columbia Records, which once distributed for Def Jam. The album's title was inspired by Nas's view of the music industry and the state of hip hop music at the time. The album features appearances from Nas’ then wife Kelis, Kanye West, Jay-Z, will. am, Snoop Dogg, The Game and Chrisette Michele, among others.
Hip-hop isn't dead and neither is Nas but both could use a shot of life. Hip Hop is dead but if you truly don't understand that quote then you will not enjoy this album for what it is. The intro is exciting and draws you into the album and it only gets better from there. The track who killed it is definitely the weakest track on here. I like the concept but the song is ehhhh lol.

Hip Hop Is Dead" is the first and title single taken from Nas' 2006 album of the same name. It is produced by and features will. It peaked at number 48 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, as well as number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100. On December 31, 2007, the music video for "Hip Hop Is Dead" appeared at number 93 on BET's Notarized: Top 100 Videos of 2007 countdown, even though the video was released in December 2006.
Hip Hop Is Dead is not Illmatic. Illmatic stands as one of the most impressive debuts in rap music, and consequently has set up inevitable, and often unfavorable, comparisons with each of Nas' subsequent releases. And so it is practically a given that the two albums in fact do not compare, that the beats, the rhymes, the insight, the flow Mr. Jones had on Illmatic have not been duplicated here, and in all honestly, probably never will
