Produced for Faton Bloom and the Studio Sextan - April '86. Didier "Bloom" Malherbe and François "Faton" Cahen formed this band as Faton Bloom in 1985. This group toured intensely, joyfully and successfully in France until 1988. Tracks 5, 10 and 11 are are extra tracks not to be found on the LP release. Artist on spine: Didier Malherbe.
Faton Bloom is lightly entertaining, but like Didier Lockwood or Jean-Luc Ponty's albums from the same period, it suffers from the cold production values of the time and a lack of engagement in the writing. The presence of percussionist Roger Raspail adds an Afro-Cuban touch, especially in "Mambo for a Cripple Duck" and "Nouvelles Impressions d'Aise," two Cohen numbers.
Faton Bloom is the reunion of Francois 'Faton' Cahen (ex Magma, Zao) and Didier 'Bloom' Malherbe (ex Gong). This recording is from an early concert in 1984, with the first incarnation of the band featuring the wonderful drummer Pierre Moerlen (ex Gong). This was long before the recording of their sole album in 1986. This is an unmissable archive of a much underrated band from the Gong/Magma family, with a lot of unreleased pieces. It has been cleaned and remastered. Sound is very good, I would rate it 7/10
