Mitch Ryder (b. William S. Levise, J. February 26, 1945) is an American musician who has recorded more than two dozen albums over more than four decades. Ryder is noted for his gruff, wailing singing style and his dynamic stage performances. He was influenced by his father, a musician. As a teenager, Ryder sang backup with a black soul-music group known as the Peps, but racial animosities interfered with his continued presence in the group.

Mitch Ryder and Detroit. The Best of the Kingsmen. The Very Best of Chicago: Only the Beginning.

Mitch Ryder Sings the Hits has much better balance than What Now My Love, the album which yielded his last and least-potent of six Top 30 singles. Detroit rockers covering the Supremes' Motown smash "Come See About Me" seemed to be in vogue - Mark Farner and Don Brewer's excellent version showed up on Monumental Funk - and Ryder does the song justice as well, the two blue-eyed soul copies fun and worthy of comparison.

Audio CD, Import, May 11, 1999. Simply stated, Mitch Ryder is the most underrated performer ever to come from the . He may be the only one worthy of holding a candle to the British Beat Boom of that time. In my opinion it doesn't get any better than his Detroit rock. However if you really listen to his greatest hits you will surely want to own everything he recorded.

Mitch Ryder grew up in the city known as ‘Motown’ where automobiles and hit records came off the assembly lines during the early 1960s. A powerful singer and personality, young William Levise was moulded by the soul and R&B music he heard growing up as a kid. Soon he became ‘Mitch Ryder’, leader of The Detroit Wheels, who hit the charts with ‘Jenny Take A Ride!’ and ‘Devil With a Blue Dress On’ in 1966.
