The Unexpected is an album by the Norwegian/Belgian metal band Beautiful Sin. The music could be described as a melodic metal release with some serious hard rock leanings, plus modern production values. Most of the songs on the album are quite mid-tempo, picking up crunch and heavier parts only during the apex of the piece or the occasional choruses. A cross-continental meeting between two guitarists and two drummers, The Unexpected One is a studio document of a too-rare intermingling between the Montreal and Vancouver free improv scenes. From the Eastern metropolis come two of Ambiances Magnétiques' household names of late, guitarist Bernard Falaise (Klaxon Gueule, Miriodor) and drummer Pierre Tanguay (a regular sideman of Jean Derome and René Lussier). Joining them in Vancouver are guitarist Ron Samworth (Talking Pictures, NOW Orchestra) and drummer Dylan van der Schyff (also Talking Pictures, Peggy Lee Band).

Very tight debut album that follows the core concepts of alienation and urban atmosphere like the fantastic EP 'Endless Party' without losing variety in the 10 songs. In my opinion are the drums a bit under the overall mix and the last track doesn't have that much of an impact to me. Least but not least for 20 bucks +shipping the CD-Digipack is a bit underwhelming, could have been more illustrations and linernotes. the coverart and strong colours are still awesome).
