And Also the Trees are an English post-punk band, formed in 1979 in Inkberrow, Worcestershire. They are characterised by their poetic lyrics and evocative music which are strongly influenced by the native English countryside. And Also the Trees formed in 1979 in Inkberrow, a large village in Worcestershire, with a lineup featuring two sets of brothers: Simon Huw Jones (vocals), Justin Jones (guitar), Graham Havas (bass) and Nick Havas (drums).
It was the fourth consecutive Nine Inch Nails release to be produced by frontman Trent Reznor with collaborators Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder.
So This Is Silence" kicks off the Trees' debut with a semi-tribal drum rhythm sounding not unlike something from the Cure's Pornography, albeit lighter; given that Cure drummer Lol Tolhurst produced the record, such a connection makes perfect sense. However, the Trees weren't, and have never been, mere clones of the Cure despite Tolhurst's help and Robert Smith's long-term patronage, though at this stage of their careers the band's collective influences certainly hung heavy.

The trees are coming into leaf Like something almost being said; The recent buds relax and spread, Their greenness is a kind of grief Is it that they are born again. The trees are coming into leaf. Like something almost being said; The recent buds relax and spread, Their greenness is a kind of grief. Is it that they are born again. And we grow old? No, they die too
The album caught the attention of John Peel for whom they recorded a session, which no doubt helped all their early singles into the indie charts. Those recordings reflected their early, tentative post-punk roots, but it was with 1986's seminal Virus Meadow - an album of rich, pagan melancholy and disturbing laments - and the resulting European tours, that And Also The Trees truly found their own identity. Their fans became enraptured by the dramatic, poetic nature of their work. And also the trees' were formed in 1979 by the brothers Justin and Simon Huw Jones and their close friends Nick and Graham Havas. The Jones brothers are still central to the bands existence but there has since been three changes in the line up. Current band members

their voices have gone dead
their tongues have now begun to rot
his eyes are turned to dirt
her hands are broken down
the burning lights address the stage
a pale reflection steals the show
the famine that brought the plague
has left the wounds exposed
she’s tended to the sores
urine dripping from the sheets
the stale bread attacks his throat
words broken like the glass
children bound by their disease
screaming names into the sun
the walls and floors adorned with guilt
his static ringing in her ears
a fervid cashmere disgrace
absconded by stacks of tomes
her fingers are so undertorn
with a womb with that’s made of clay
and although they deeply slash their necks
he had my cousin’s name and more
