Rio is the second studio album by English new wave band Duran Duran, originally released worldwide on 10 May 1982. It reached number two in the United Kingdom and number one in Australia and Canada. The album was re-released in the United States in November 1982. It earned a Gold disc on 1 March 1983, and was certified Platinum on 26 April 1983, eventually reaching Double Platinum status

The second CD contains additional demos and remixes from the Rio era and was released on 29 June, 2009 in the US and 30 June in the UK.
The original Duran Duran's high point, and just as likely the band's as a whole, its fusion of style and substance ensures that even two decades after its release it remains as listenable and danceable as ever. The quintet integrates its sound near-perfectly throughout, the John and Roger Taylor rhythm section providing both driving propulsion and subtle pacing.
The band felt that they had something special with vocalist Simon Le Bon, and the group smashed into the pop scene shortly afterwards when "Planet Earth", their debut single, was released on 2 February 1981. Planet Earth" became an immediate hit in the band's native . reaching on the . Singles Chart on 21 February, and it did even better in Australia, hitting there. Being Duran Duran's first Top 10 hit anywhere in the world, the song showed the group's interest in international stardom.
