The artett (English: Helicopter String Quartet) is one of Karlheinz Stockhausen's best-known pieces, and one of the most complex to perform. It involves a string quartet, four helicopters with pilots, as well as audio and video equipment and technicians. It was first performed and recorded in 1995. Although performable as a self-sufficient piece, it also forms the third scene of the opera Mittwoch aus Licht ("Wednesday from Light").

Karlheinz Stockhausen is the composer of the su. .Karlheinz Stockhausen dreamt of it and he did it. He wrote a score for a string quartet whose musicians (in this instance the Arditti Quartet) would each play in a helicopter, while their music would be mixed on the ground by Stockhausen and broadcasted in the concert hall. The helicopter rotors are naturally present.

IT started with a dream he had, in which a string quartet performed with its members flying separately in four helicopters. Yet that dream actually came to fruition.

Apparently the idea came to Stockhausen in a dream. I think maybe he should've left it in his dream. While I'm not going to judge a composer based on one ly a two-minute one recorded in a flying helicopter-this sounds very, very silly. my teacher test question is how many helicopter that play violin. 6 months ago. perhaps the most bizarre and ludicrous spectacle I have ever seen.

Filmmaker Frank Scheffer recorded everything with sixteen cameras and a helicopter. experimental filmmaker Frank Scheffer (Venlo, 1956) is known for his films Time is Music (1988), Voyage to Cythera (1999), Conducting Mahler (1996) and A Labyrinth of Time (2004), amongst many others.
