This is a good record, though not the Leo Kottke album to start with, as it is not representative of his usual work - it's mostly a vocal record, and a very country-flavored record at that, with Kottke's baritone, reminiscent in some ways of Leonard Cohen (and even moving into what one might consider Jim Morrison territory), serving as the dominant instrument on six of the ten tracks. His flashy 12-string playing and Cal Hand's Dobro do come to the fore on "Tilt Billings and the Student Prince.

Ice Water is the seventh album by guitarist Leo Kottke. It contains Kottke's only charting single, the Tom T. Hall composition "Pamela Brown". Ice Water peaked at on the Billboard Pop Albums charts. It was re-issued on CD by BGO (CD146) in 1992 and One Way Records in 1996. All songs by Leo Kottke except as noted.

Leo Kottke (born September 11, 1945) is an acoustic guitarist. He is known for a fingerpicking style that draws on blues, jazz, and folk music, and for syncopated, polyphonic melodies. He overcame a series of personal obstacles, including partial loss of hearing and a nearly career-ending bout with tendon damage in his right hand, to emerge as a widely recognized master of his instrument. He currently resides in the Minneapolis area with his family.

Leo Kottke Format: Vinyl. I think this is Leo Kottke's best studio album. Unlike others who carp at his voice, I have to hand it to a guy who can play like this and warble a perfectly credible vibrato too-kind of like Karen Carpenter drumming while singing!
