New Wave music meant a lot of things in the late 1970s. It encompassed pretty much everything that followed the punk movement that still served as an alternative to mainstream pop and rock. There was power-pop, neo-psychedelia, acid-punk, art rock and lots and lots of keyboards

Ultimate Punk & New Wave. This is a fun collection. I very much enjoy listening to it. The majority of songs would likely be classified as New Wave, but there is a good amount of Punk. Obviously, it does not have the "Biggie" bands. I have my Clash Sex Pistols, Talking Heads Fabulous Poodles etc on other CD's.

New wave in Yugoslavia was the new wave music scene of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. As its counterparts, the British and the US new wave, from which the main influences came, the Yugoslav scene was also closely related to punk rock, ska, reggae, 2 Tone, power pop and mod revival. Some of its acts are also counted as belonging to the Yugoslav punk scene which already existed prior to new wave.

New Wave was usually used a catch-all term for the music that directly followed punk rock; often, the term encompassed punk itself, as well. In retrospect, it's became clear that the music that followed punk could be divided, more or less, into two categories - post-punk and new wave. Where post-punk was arty, difficult, and challenging, new wave was pop music, pure and simple. It retained the fresh vigor and irreverence of punk music, as well as a fascination with electronics, style, and art. Therefore, there was a lot of stylistic diversity to new wave

The world may be full to the brim of new wave and punk compilations, but it’s still possible to find freshness in the hoary old archives of gobland, as DJ Gary Crowley proves with this unambiguously-named collection. Despite a sleeve displaying an anachronistic ghetto-blaster, this is a set that could only have been compiled by someone who was there at the time. Classic Rock Newsletter.
