New Wave music meant a lot of things in the late 1970s. It encompassed pretty much everything that followed the punk movement that still served as an alternative to mainstream pop and rock. There was power-pop, neo-psychedelia, acid-punk, art rock and lots and lots of keyboards. Underwater Moonlight sounds like the best bar band in the world playing hits from a world that’s better than our own. I Wanna Destroy You and Queen of Eyes, especially, should be radio staples. 45. Buggles – The Age of Plastic (1980) Video Killed the Radio Star ushered in a new era in music when it debuted on MTV at 12:01 . 30. Depeche Mode – Music for the Masses (1987) By 1987, the popularity of synthizer-based pop music was waning. Their previous album, V. made Pearl Jam the most successful band in the world. They celebrated by suing Ticketmaster and making Vitalogy, where their mastery of rock’s past and future became complete. Soulful ballads like Nothingman are matched by hardcore-influenced rockers such as Spin the Black Circle. Melody meets melodrama on the title track and on "A Promise," where McCulloch sing-sobs a story of love gone wrong.
This fourth album boasts one of the strongest track lists of any of our recordings, with brilliant new classics from the latest game release FINAL FANTASY XV: APOCALYPSIS NOCTIS and Somnus, new orchestral arrangements from FINAL FANTASY VII: Cosmo Canyon and JENOVA COMPLETE, FINAL FANTASY VIII: The Oath and FINAL FANTASY IX: Festival of the Hunt, and Nobuo Uematsu’s FINAL FANTASY XIV . Recorded in March 2017 at the famed Dvořák Hall of the Rudolfinum in Prague (Czech Republic) and at AWR Music Studio in Chicago (USA), the Distant Worlds Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, under the direction of GRAMMY Award-winning conductor Arnie Roth, delivers the precision and richness that are the hallmark of this monumental series of recordings.
