Marco Bailey must have been in an extremely good mood (and high as the kite portrayed on the record's sleeve) when he recorded the phenomenally titled Bollocks, which is, ladies and gentlemen, just that - and at the very best too. A safe contender for the cheesiest piece of music he's ever done, it drops one of those horrendous electro house Ibiza after job party sequences fourteen year olds adore. Words cannot describe how atrocious it is. I don't think I've ever listened to this one through, as I am just afraid to find out what comes after the break, although you don't have to be a certified neuro surgeon to know that. Ice Breaker is a very tight and minimal offering, reminiscent of the How Is Your DNA? remix he did on Claude Young's 12" on MB Selektions. Kind of cool and groovy, although it gets tiresome sooner than you'd hope. However, due to its sound, it remained somehow relevant on dance floors, even to this present day. Which brings me to From His Other Side, one of Marco's most well executed, touching and introspective tracks he's ever made. New school breaks with elements of electro and a god sent sax solo some halfway deep. Remarkable, and nothing less. Maybe only the last few downtempo tunes from "Rudeboy" can compare in terms of depth and originality. Not the sound Marco Bailey is often associated with, and not really the most club orientated cut, if not dropped towards the end of the night, the effort and ecclecticism of this one cannot be denied. This whole 12" is more than worth owning for From His Other Side alone, which displays a totally different style of the artist, and for a moment deviates from the functional and utilitarian tribal pounding stuff MB Electronics and its sublabels are associated with.
