Vampire Weekend is the debut studio album by the American indie rock band Vampire Weekend, released in January 2008 on XL Recordings. The album was recorded in a variety of environments including; a basement where there was "a good set up for recording drums"; a barn; the apartments of two band members and Tree Fort studio in Brooklyn

Vampire Weekend return with a shaggy, sprawling double album all about rebirth, contentment, and the reclamation of light. From the beginning, Vampire Weekend were winners: charming, relatively lighthearted; Columbia students one year, festival headliners the next. They had cute sweaters and smart jokes; they wrote with wit and curiosity about the tapestry of privileged life; they carried themselves with an almost infuriating sparkle.

I bought the US copy at Barnes & Noble, no surface noise at all. Not as punchy as the CD but the clarity of the instruments is nice to hear

Purchased mine at B&N as well, about two months back. Side 1 and 2 both have noise. Side 2 during "Campus" has pretty bad crackle/noise alll the way through. Quite disappointing. I'm hoping this is not on all copies. However, the actual sound quality is a little lacking. Seems thin.

Obviously a classic album in the late 00s indie rock scene, but sadly this pressing is not great. Besides the smattering of non-fill, the mastering at NRP is quite poor. The entire album seems unnaturally thin, and the bass is rolled off. This leaves percussive elements sounding tame in comparison to the relatively punchy CD master, and vocals sounding unnatural. Additionally despite the very short length of this album, the album is cut very tightly, which causes IGD with most elliptical carts. Even with a microcline stylus, the sound is nothing special.

Mine's slightly warped too. This albums deserves a 2LP remaster with Ladies of Cambridge tacked on.
Na
anyone else have a copy from 2007 that came with a lyric sheet that had lyrics to side A printed on both sides?
Mavegelv
My copy also has a lyric sheet that has side A lyrics on both sides.

My copy came sealed but without the outer slipcase. Has anyone got such a copy? Would it be possible for this CD to came without its outer slipcase?
Drelalen
Can anyone comment on the quality of this US pressing? The UK/Europe pressing in print is horrible, lots of surface noise throughout
Dddasuk
I have the other listed US pressing and its dead silent.
Eyalanev
Mine has lots of surface yes, brand new and cleaned with a carbon fibre brush and a roller record cleaner (vinyl buddy). Pretty disappointing.
Simple fellow
What is the difference between this one and the other one that came out the same day?

Did anyone's copy come with a poster? I got a poster in Contra and MVOTC but none with this one.

Beware terrible pressing. Well mine is.
Balhala
Playing mine at moment and you have a point - has been cleaned as well - great album but not a great vinyl pressing

There is something intriguing and almost unnatural about the fact that I am continuously drawn towards Vampire Weekend. The light-hearted melodies with simple accompaniment of organ, harpsichord, strings, and flute, turn the clock back to the times of invincibility and carefree college days. Vampire Weekend is a four member New York City indie band, that slightly nods towards the afro-pop genre with a hint of ska. The 2/4 percussion, accented with African elements and an occasional conga, bring on that feeling of kwassa kwassa rhythms. Ezra Koenig, Rostam Batmanglij, Chris Tomson and Chris Baio describe their style as "Upper West Side Soweto", with influences from both, Western classical music and Congolese soukous music. After a couple of successful top hit singles on the UK Indie charts, Vampire Weekend got picked up by none other than XL Records. 2008 brought on their debut self titled full length, and by now it may be too late to hail praise to their sound - Spin has already declared them as The Year's Best New Band in March '08 issue. Look, it's been a while since I've written about anything other then instrumental or electronic, and even though I consider my taste pretty wide and open, Vampire Weekend reminds me that there's a whole ocean of untapped genres. Simply put, Vampire Weekend brings back the ease with which The Beatles conquered the world.
