Echo & the Bunnymen are an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1978. The original line-up consisted of vocalist Ian McCulloch, guitarist Will Sergeant and bassist Les Pattinson, supplemented by a drum machine. By 1980, Pete de Freitas joined as the band's drummer. Their 1980 debut album, Crocodiles, went into the top 20 of the UK Albums Chart
Siberia is the tenth studio album by Echo & the Bunnymen. The track "Of a Life" has the line "I want a song to learn and sing", which name-checks the band's 1985 compilation album Songs to Learn and Sing.

But that telling and unavoidable absence alone puts the promise and problem of Echo's comeback album in perspective - McCulloch and Sergeant had been working together again and Pattinson returned to the fold, but without De Freitas something remained unavoidably absent
