Quicksilver Messenger Service is the debut studio album of Quicksilver Messenger Service, released in 1968. This was Quicksilver Messenger Service's first album, although they had already produced two songs for the soundtrack of the 1968 movie Revolution. The album displays the group's jam sound amidst lighter pop-oriented songs.
The band achieved wide popularity in the San Francisco Bay Area and through their recordings, with psychedelic rock enthusiasts around the globe, and several of their albums ranked in the Top 30 of the Billboard Pop charts.
Listen to Happy Trails right now. Quite unusually for a sophomore record, Happy Trails was a live album, taken from performances by the band at the famed Fillmore East and Fillmore West venues. Even more ambitiously, the first side of the disc was a suite of songs, running more than 25 minutes in total, based around the theme of Bo Diddley’s ‘Who Do You Love?’, in no fewer than six episodic interpretations. Twenty-three years after its release, in 1992, Happy Trails went gold, testament to the lasting contribution of Quicksilver Messenger Service - as was the fact that it landed at No. 189 on Rolling Stone’s all-time top 500 album list of 2003. Largely recorded live at New York's fabled Fillmore, the album consists of two distinct sides. The first is based around Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love" and aims to transform the song into a complex suite through the used of four of the band's own compositions, titled "When You Love", "Where You Love", "Which Do You Love" and "How You Love"
Happy Trails is the second album of the American band Quicksilver Messenger Service. Most of the album was recorded from two performances at the Fillmore East and Fillmore West, although it is not clear which parts were recorded at which Fillmore. Trying to sit through these jams and pay attention to them is, however, a totally useless idea-and it only makes matters worse. If you have, for some unexplainable reason, purchased this album, never make the mistake of paying attention to it. his album manages to, indeed, epitomize all the worst excesses of American hippie music, and never concentrate on the best. he ever-modest Cipollina" said "'it was just a two-chord ja.
