Blues from Laurel Canyon is a 1968 album by John Mayall, featuring British blues music. It was his first album after the breakup of his band the Bluesbreakers in May 1968, though others claim it was on 14 July 1968. It was also his last album with Decca before moving to Polydor. John Mayall sings and plays harmonica, organ and guitar on the album. The other band members are a young Mick Taylor (guitar), Colin Allen (drums) and Stephen Thompson (bass)

Blues from Laurel Canyon is a blues album, through and through. Testimony to this is the fact that there's a guitar solo only 50 seconds into the opening track. Indeed, Mayall dispersed the entire brass section for Blues from Laurel Canyon, and instead chose the solid but relatively limited backing of Mick Taylor (guitar), Colin Allen (drums), and Stephen Thompson (bass). Instantly, it is apparent that John Mayall hasn't lost his touch with the blues. Vacation," the album's opener, reminds one exactly why this artist is so celebrated for his songwriting ability

Recorded in three days at Decca Studios West Hampstead on the 26th, 27th and 28th of August 1968. All colour photographs taken in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles.

Blues From Laurel Canyon is John Mayall's original blues masterpiece. All of the songs were written by Mayall, and they all reflect traditional American while addressing an experience Mayall on a short vacation to the states. I highly recommend this album to anyone who wants to learn about John Mayall, as well as get a taste of 'original' blues music from an Englishman. Mick Taylor shines on the guitar, and John Mayall's vocals are better than ever. He's never been a giant among blues vocalists, but on this album he does very well.
