Pressure Chief is the fifth studio album by American band Cake. It was released on October 5, 2004, pushed back from its original August release date. It was produced by the band and recorded in a converted house in Sacramento. The lead single, "No Phone" peaked at on the . Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. The second single "Carbon Monoxide" garnered some airplay but failed to crack the Modern Rock Tracks top 40. The album was the band's second and last record under Columbia Records.
Pressure Chief" is definately an expiremental album, it uses keyboards, moogs, electronic effects and trumpets. The only problem with this is that Cake overdoes things. Cake is an alt/pop or an alt/rock band that makes catchy songs and have very clever lyrics. While about two thirds of these songs are catchy there is something missing. Sometimes in music you don't need a lot of electronic effects and synths. The problem with "Pressure Chief" is that there are too many non needed synths, and electronic effects

While artists like Beck and Radiohead see every new album as an opportunity for reinvention from the ground up, Cake has no such hang-ups. From the uniformly rustic cover art, the jerky rhythms and wobbly trumpet solos, each of Sacramento band's albums is reassuringly interchangeable. But on its fifth, the group's most distinguishing characteristic-John McCrea's deadpan, detached vocals-seems to have been given a makeover.
Genre: Alternative Rock. The wheels may be spinning round but the group wasn't there on time and lost all the fun! So they prepared a new cake with some electronic ingredients that tastes pretty unbaked. Or consider a donation?
