Celebrity Skin is the tenth single by Hole, released on September 1, 1998 by Geffen Records. It is the debut single from their third studio album of the same name and is Hole’s most commercially successful single, being the only one to reach on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. In October 2011, NME placed it at number 126 on its list 150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years. Billy Corgan reportedly wrote the song’s main guitar riff.

Their third album, Celebrity Skin (1998), marked a notable departure from their earlier punk influences, boasting a more commercially viable sound; the album sold around 2 million copies worldwide, and earned them significant critical acclaim. They disbanded in 2002, and the members individually pursued other projects.

A toned-down Love still may not be able to carry a tune, but there's little grit to her performance on Celebrity Skin, so she effortlessly blends with the faceless musical support - which is strange, considering her overpowering public image.
