Symptom of the Universe: The Original Black Sabbath 1970–1978 is a compilation album released by heavy metal band Black Sabbath in 2002. All songs have been remastered for this compilation. The Black Box set, which was released in 2004, contained versions of the band's first eight albums remastered during the same sessions as this compilation. All songs written by Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, Ozzy Osbourne, except where noted.

Yes, those who are hardcore metalheads will want the original albums, but for those who just want the highlights - those riffs that have entered your subconscious through osmosis - this is the way to go, since it cherry picks the best hits and album tracks to fill out two discs, enough to offer proof that even if Zeppelin were more. versatile, Sabbath were the definitive heavy metal band, especially if you were only looking for power, volume, and strength.

All full-length album cuts, digitally remastered from the original tapes. Booklet includes liner notes by Black Sabbath historian Mick Wall. Packaging: 2 individual digi-packs with a separate booklet, all in a slipcase with special embossed artwork. Executive-p-roduced by Sharon Osbourne. Completely besting the once-classic and classically named best-of, We Sold Our Souls for Rock 'n' Roll, Symptom of the Universe captures one of rock's heaviest tidal forces in all their glory-and in some more compromising moments.
