Band Of Fire was originally released on Facets, a compilation sampler from the Synkronos electronic music label, in 1991. It was solo electronic artist and Atomic City founder Mike Metlay's first foray into work with a larger label. Years later, Metlay got permission from Synkronos to remaster the 17-minute soundscape with the SRS Labs 3D Sound system to give it an eerie sense of space unlike any electronic music before it, and released it on Atomic City as a CD single

Metlay! is the name under which electronic musician Mike Metlay releases his solo work. Not including a long out-of-print cassette album (The Analog Archives), his discography consists of two CDs released on his own Atomic City imprint – Band Of Fire from 1991, and After Silence from 2002 – and Metric, a free download release on the Earth Mantra netlabel.

Fire was a late 1960s/early 1970s band that consisted of Dave Lambert (who later joined Strawbs), Bob Voice and Dick Duffall (Paul Brett Sage). Brett himself joined them for their now classic Magic Shoemaker LP recorded at Pye Studios London, in 1970. This vinyl LP has been in the UK's top 10 of collectable vinyl, being listed in Millers Antique Collectable guide.
