Adagio is a French progressive metal band formed in 2000 by guitarist Stéphan Forté. Since their third studio album Dominate, Adagio has evolved from their original power metal sound, but still adhering to their trademark elements of virtuosity and massive orchestral influences. With Dominate, they implemented a heavier sound with traditional death grunts. Archangels in Black was the band's fourth album

The impetus behind the band's dormancy spanning almost a decade was our commitment to doing justice to our material," says guitarist Stéphan Forté. To release the album in an incomplete or premature state would be a disservice to the music, the band, and most of all, to the fans.
