Roméo et Juliette (Romeo and Juliet) is an opera in five acts by Charles Gounod to a French libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, based on Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. It was first performed at the Théâtre Lyrique (Théâtre-Lyrique Impérial du Châtelet), Paris on 27 April 1867. This opera is notable for the series of four duets for the main characters and the waltz song "Je veux vivre" for the soprano.

This score consists of extracted highlights from my opera Romeo and Juliet, written in early music style. I think it is very suitable for an amateur production and for untrained voices, requiring just 13 voices and a chamber orchestra. I have used only Shakespeare’s text (50% reduced), so there is no messing around with the story. The total length of the piece is about 2 hours 10 min, including spoken sections of text. My musical style originates from singing plainchant in school years, sweetened by renaissance and baroque choral music more recently.
