The Binaural Tour was a concert tour by the American rock band Pearl Jam to support its sixth album, Binaural. Pearl Jam promoted Binaural with tours in Europe and North America. Before the tour started on May 23, with a show in Lisbon, Portugal, two warm-up concerts were performed in Bellingham, Washington, on May 10, and Vancouver on May 11. Pearl Jam's 2000 European tour ended in tragedy on June 30, 2000, with an accident at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark

Pearl Jam is an American rock band formed in 1990 in Seattle, Washington. Since its inception, the band's line-up has included Eddie Vedder (lead vocals), Mike McCready (lead guitar), Stone Gossard (rhythm guitar), and Jeff Ament (bass guitar). Since 1998, the band has also included drummer Matt Cameron (also of Soundgarden). Boom Gaspar (keyboards) has also been a session/touring member with the band since 2002.
Binaural is Pearl Jam's sixth studio album, released on May 16, 2000 through Epic Records. Following a full-scale tour in support of its previous album, Yield, released in 1998, the band took a short break. The band then reconvened toward the end of 1999 and commenced work on a new album. The music on the record featured an experimental sound, evidenced on songs that utilized binaural recording techniques. Binaural debuted at number two on the Billboard charts. The album became the first Pearl Jam studio album to fail to reach platinum status.
About Binaural album. Album Binaural (2000). by Pearl Jam. Label Epic.
Pearl Jam had a difficult time with writing and recording Binaural; to start, guitarist Mike McCready left part way through recording to check himself into rehab for an addiction to prescription medication, and to make matters worse, singer Eddie Vedder found himself mired in writer's block. This led to him picking up a ukelele. It was the first Pearl Jam album that didn't go platinum, and the band only released two singles from it: "Nothing as it Seems" and "Light Years. Both singles are subdued, almost somber, affairs while "Light Years" is slow, serious and could even be considered heavy. I's a psychedelic tune, full of swirly guitar solos and dense instrumentation.
BINAURAL was the first Pearl Jam album not to go platinum. It sounds to me like a breakthrough to a higher level of musical realization following the band's escape from grunge (NO CODE) and initial forays into the broader sonic terrain they discovered (YIELD). There are moments when you wish Eddide Vedder would ennunciate better, but it does blend in well with the songs. Breakerfall" is a knockout song, and "Thin Air" is one of the best songs I think they've done in years. This is one intense album. One person found this helpful.
