FaltyDL - Hardcourage album flac

With new album, Hardcourage, Lustman's called it again. It maps his journey from uncertainty to confidence, toward music that reaches outward rather than inward; those two words pushed together as if to boldly ring the fact that facing your fears is no walk in the park. On Hardcourage, it appears he's worked hard to loosen his thrall to jazz-like introspection- something that often eclipsed his earlier work- in favor of a newfound openness

Complete your FaltyDL collection. You know sometimes when an album is released and you don't know why it's hitting, one by one, your notes? This one from Falty DL, a producer I always admire but do not always enjoy, is one of these albums, from the first to the last tracks. It reminds me to the electronic music that got me to be a junkie of the genre: the synth work and lazy melodies have hints of Ultramarine's "A users Guide", from T-Polar's "Red Machine", from the first Recloose works, from Chateau Flight, from the most synthetic works of Sonar Kollektiv.

FaltyDL - Hardcourage FaltyDL's pursuit of his muse these past few years has been about as erratic as his music itself. You never really know what's coming next, and he has a tendency to take unexpected turns and noodling diversions. Hardcourage takes a step back from Lustman's apparently infinite array of sounds, surveys its surroundings and finds a nice cozy spot to lounge. In a more literal sense, it replaces the ecstatic skip of his Planet Mu work with a breezy shuffle.

Minor complaints aside, Hardcourage is an excellent effort, and, if the crossover attempts prove successful, it just might be the album that gets a wider audience talking about FaltyDL.

While we love The XX, it frustrates us that their tastemaking DJ and producer Jamie XX has yet to make a solo LP of his sparkling excursions into UK bass, as previously heard on remixes of Adele and Gil Scott-Heron. Maybe we should stop waiting when NYC producer FaltyDL – real name Drew Lustman – makes the hard job of presenting an eclectic and excellent dance music album look this easy

Hardcourage, the first FaltyDL album on Ninja Tune, is also Lustman’s first full-length since 2011. The album features a broad range of influences, from the Scandinavian-esque Straight & Arrow to the hip-hop-based Kenny Rolls One. Lustman also incorporates qualities of modern dub music throughout the record, such as inverted falsetto and chopped bass rhythms. There’s even a song that dabbles with chiptunes ( Korban Dallas ).
