Susanna Hoffs is the second solo album by Susanna Hoffs. The style of the album is more folk-oriented than her earlier work. Columbia Records hated and disagreed with this style and dropped her from their roster, resulting in Hoffs signing to London Records. The album is much more personal and deals with issues like abusive relationships and insecurities; "Weak With Love" is about John Lennon's assassination. The album was promoted by forming a band for an extensive tour.
A sequel to Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs' 2007 stroll through the '60s was perhaps inevitable, at least as inevitable as the decision to devote Under the Covers, Vol. 2 to the super sounds of the '70s
Under the Covers, Vol. 2 is the second collaboration between alternative rock artist Matthew Sweet and Bangles singer/guitarist Susanna Hoffs. Released by Shout! If the song selection underwhelms for its familiarity, the reverence that Sweet and Hoffs bring to their performances and arrangements give the record a genuine warmth that, while perhaps a bit too tasteful and restrained, is endearing. Though her reading of Bread’s Everything I Own is somewhat flat, Hoffs’s distinctive rasp is in especially fine form; her soulful rendition of Rod Stewart’s Maggie May is easily the highlight of the set.
All three volumes of Susanna Hoffs and Matthew Sweet‘s Under The Covers albums are collected in new four CD and six-LP box sets, both due for release in October. Hoffs and Sweet have covered 57 acts, including The Beatles, Dylan, Fairport Convention, Neil Young, The Beach Boys, The Who, Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac, Carly Simon, The Ramones, The Clash, The Pretenders, The Smiths and Prince. Volume One of Under The Covers was originally issued back in 2006 with the most recent release dating from 2013. Completely Under The Covers is released on 9 October 2015.
