Different Light is the second studio album by American pop rock band the Bangles, released in January 1986. The album's Top 40 sound was a departure from their earlier 1960s-style rock'n'roll sound. It is their best-known album, with five charting singles, including the Billboard top two hits "Manic Monday" and "Walk Like an Egyptian". It is also the first album in which bassist Michael Steele sings lead vocals on some tracks.

The Bangles' first album, All Over the Place, may have earned them a smattering of radio and MTV airplay, but it's clear that with Different Light they were aiming for much higher stakes, especially when Prince - who was reportedly infatuated with Susanna Hoffs - offered to write a song for them

Album · 1986 · 12 Songs. Striving to be more than a cult band, the Bangles ratcheted up the commercial quotient of their sound on 1986’s Different Light. This strategy had its risks but fortunately the group’s impeccable vocal harmonies never sounded better. Even more important, the songs range from strong to excellent. Radio listeners became Bangles fans thanks to the baroque-tinged Manic Monday (written by Prince) and the odd-yet-danceable Walk Like An Egyptian
