The Gateway District are a pop punk band from Minneapolis that feature members of several other bands, including The Soviettes, Banner Pilot, The Salteens, Dear Landlord, Rivethead and Off with Their Heads. The band originally formed as a side project when The Soviettes and Rivethead stopped performing in 2006, but even though all of the band members are still active in other projects, they have continued with this project.

The Gateway District is a punk band from Minneapolis. Their members play or have played in a bunch of other bands (The Soviettes, Rivethead, Banner Pilot, The Self Polluters, Supermanure, The Salteens), so they are a "super" group in the same sense that McDonalds Ketchup is "fancy". The Gateway District are Maren (Vocals/Guitar), Carrie (Vocals/Bass), Nate (Guitar), and Brad (Drums).
The first album by the Gateway District, 2009's Some Days You Get the Thunder is a complete favourite of mine. They are a band comprised of members of other such great bands as the Soviettes, Dear Landlord and Banner Pilot. Like Cheeky, Caves and the Measure they could broadly be described as scratchy pop-punk with female vocals in the Discount tradition. The way I sold people on their first album was by telling them that it was like the Measure if you replaced all the spindly indie/folky influences with rollicking country ones.
But on their debut album, the Gateway District manage to sound like the post-punk professionals they are and at the same time to maintain a salutary level of relaxed noisiness. At their tightest and hookiest they bring to mind middle-period Hüsker Dü ("Song for Sue") or Rancid ("September"). When they loosen up the result is sometimes catchy ("Lake St. Is for Suckers," complete with shout-along chorus) and sometimes not (the brief and chaotic "Highway Song")
