Hemispheres is the sixth studio album by the Canadian rock band Rush, released in October 1978 by Anthem Records. After touring to support the band's previous studio release, A Farewell to Kings, which saw the group gain popularity in the UK, Rush started work on its next album. As with the band's previous studio album, Hemispheres was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales and Trident Studios in London with longtime engineer and arranger, Terry Brown.

Template:Use Canadian English. Hemispheres is the sixth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released in 1978. The album was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales and mixed at Trident Studios in London. It was the last of two albums they would record in the United Kingdom before returning to their homes in Canada. Following themes going back to Rush's third album, Caress of Steel, on Hemispheres lyricist Neil Peart continued to utilize fantasy and science fiction motifs.

Rush began life as a power trio in the Led Zeppelin/heavy rock mode. Over the years the band refined their musical vision as they gained both instrumental and conceptual facility. 1978's HEMISPHERES marks their transition from heavy riff-mongers to full blown art-rockers.

Much as with 2112, the album’s centerpiece is its multipart Side One suite, Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres, a sequel to the final track from 1977’s A Farewell to Kings. Book I left off with a poor space traveler getting sucked into a black hole; here, improbably, he emerges as a God of Balance, mediating between Apollo and Dionysus in a struggle for the soul of mankind.

Rush - Hemispheres, Anthem Records. Arguably the peak of Rush’s technical ambitions, 1978’s Hemispheres captures the iconic Canadian trio of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart drawing as much as they ever would on sheer musical ability and compositional chops. An expanded, 40th anniversary reissue of the album, which features a 2015 remaster on CD for the first time along with an extra disc of live recordings from the period, also includes a profusely detailed, 11,000-word liner-note essay by longtime music writer/historian and musicology professor Rob Bowman, who takes us inside the process from conception to completion.

Rush makes their most flawless record yet that is still mind blowing to this day. Matthew Clouse. Matthew Clouse Jun 7, 2017. Hemispheres is the sixth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released on October 29, 1978, by Mercury Records in the United States. Its total length is 36:08. The band's lineup included vocalist, bassist, and synths player Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and drummer Neil Peart. Rush's previous release had a progressive feel throughout the whole album, but Hemispheres takes it to a whole new level with a 18 minute epic and an instrumental that spans almost 10 minutes.
