Despite the title of this bootleg LP, John Coltrane and John Handy do not play together at all on this set. Altoist Handy leads a quintet with trumpeter Richard Williams and pianist Roland Hanna on "No Coast" from 1960 while the Coltrane Quartet is heard on three numbers from 1963; both performances were recorded live from Birdland. None of this information is listed on the record jacket. The music is decent and historical but deserves much better treatment. It's only for completists.

Hooray for John Coltrane & John Handy Quintet.

John William Coltrane (September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967) was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Working in the bebop and hard bop idioms early in his career, Coltrane helped pioneer the use of modes and was at the forefront of free jazz. He led at least fifty recording sessions and appeared on many albums by other musicians, including trumpeter Miles Davis and pianist Thelonious Monk. Over the course of his career, Coltrane's music took on an increasingly spiritual dimension
