Live at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony is the fourth album by American singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, released on May 3, 2011, through Columbia Records. Recorded during two sold-out shows in November 2010 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, Washington, the album features Washington-native Carlile and her long-time band (including brothers Phil and Tim Hanseroth) performing alongside the Seattle Symphony.

The S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium, Benaroya Hall, Seattle, WA. Submit Corrections. Recorded during her 2010 tour in support of Give Up the Ghost, this live album finds Brandi Carlile performing a mix of original songs and cover material alongside the Seattle Symphony. Carlile’s earthy pop/rock is a far cry from classical fare, perhaps, but the pairing doesn’t sound as odd as you’d think. With their cathartic melodies and storybook lyrics, her songs have always tended to fare equally well in acoustic settings and full-band arrangements

Brandi Carlile Live at Benyaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony captures the essence of a Brandi Carlile live performance plus one unique distinction, a symphony accompanying her musical production. Recorded on November 19 and 21, 2010 and produced by Martin Feveyear, Brandi and the band introduce fans and listeners to what a Brandi show sounds like, especially those who have not yet heard or seen her live. It is an experience and performance filled with much energy, command performance, and audience participation.

Brandi Carlile is one of the few musicians able to make pop-rock that appeals to the Americana set. She grew up listening to Elton John, whose Sixty Years On kicks off this live set that pairs her with the Seattle Symphony. Her own music has always had a sense of heightened experience that makes for great art. Looking Out climbs the walls with great ambition. Before It Breaks begins at the piano. The Seattle Symphony adds drama, punching up the sound with horns, woodwinds and strings.

But Live at Benaroya Hall is more concerned with dressing up Carlile’s music in elegant, orchestral clothing, and the results are pretty stunning, from the grandeur of The Story - now featuring horns, woodwinds, and strings - to the graceful ebb and flow of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, which vacillates between simple guitar arpeggios and lush symphonic swells. This isn't Brandi Carlile's first concert album, but it's certainly the best.
