Bernard John Taupin (born 22 May 1950) is an English lyricist, poet, and singer. He is best known for his long-term collaboration with Elton John, having written the lyrics for most of John's songs. In 1967, Taupin answered an advertisement placed in the UK music paper New Musical Express by Liberty Records, a company that was seeking new songwriters.
Tribe is a 1987 solo album by Bernie Taupin issued by RCA Records. The album includes the two singles, "Friend of the Flag" and "Citizen Jane". Music videos were made for both singles. All songs written by Bernie Taupin and Martin Page. Two other songs written by Taupin and Page around the same time, "Backbone" and "White Boys in Chains," were used as the B-sides to the singles "Friend of the Flag" and "Citizen Jane," respectively.
