Van Halen is the self-titled debut studio album by American hard rock band Van Halen. Released on February 10, 1978, the album peaked at on the Billboard 200. The album became widely recognized as the band's popularity grew, selling more than 10 million copies in the United States by August 7, 1996 and being certified Diamond
Van Halen’s magnificent 1978 self-titled debut album simultaneously rewrote the rules of rock guitar and hard rock in general. It’s one of those rare debut albums - think The Doors, Jimi Hendrix’s Are You Experienced, Led Zeppelin - that simply announces itself. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen redefines what the electric guitar could do, developing a blindingly fast technique with a variety of self-taught two-handed tapping, hammer-ons, pull-offs, and effects
