Miguel De Cervantes Saavedra was born in Spain in 1547 to a family once proud and influential but now fallen on hard times. Educated as a child by the Jesuits in Seville, the creator of Don Quixote grew up to follow the career of a professional soldier. But it did not bring him an escape from poverty, and he was forced to become a roving commissary for the Spanish armada. This venture, which led to bankruptcy and jail, lasted for fifteen years. Although he never knew prosperity, Cervantes did gain a measure of fame during his lifetime, and Don Quixote and Sancho Panza were known all over the world. Part I of Don Quixote was published in 1605; in 1613, his Exemplary Novels appeared, and these picaresque tales of romantic adventure gained immediate popularity.

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Featuring John Ormsby. Album Don Quixote Vol I. Don Quixote Vol I (Chap. Which treats of the character and pursuits of the famous gentleman don quixote of la mancha. In a village of La Mancha, the name of which I have no desire to call to mind, there lived not long since one of those gentlemen that keep a lance in the lance-rack, an old buckler, a lean hack, and a greyhound for coursing. Having got a name for his horse so much to his taste, he was anxious to get one for himself, and he was eight days more pondering over this point, till at last he made up his mind to call himself "Don Quixote," whence, as has been already said, the authors of this veracious history have inferred that his name must have been.

1146 quotes from Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra: 'Finally, from so little sleeping and so much reading, his brain dried up and he went completely out of his mind. 'The truth may be stretched thin, but it never breaks, and it always surfaces above lies, as oil floats on water. and 'The proof of the pudding is the eating. Too much sanity may be madness - and maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be! ― Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, Don Quixote.
