Beginnings is the first studio album by English guitarist Steve Howe, released in October 1975 by Atlantic Records. It was recorded and released during a break in activity from the progressive rock band Yes, after the band agreed for each member to put out a solo album. Howe uses various guest musicians, including past and present Yes bandmates Bill Bruford, Alan White and Patrick Moraz, as well as members of Gryphon.
Beginnings (Steve Howe album). The five Yes band members each released a solo album in 1975/6. Members Alan White and Patrick Moraz from that line-up guest on Beginnings, while Howe performed on White's Ramshackled album. The album also features former Yes drummer Bill Bruford on "Pleasure Stole the Night" and "Break Away From It All". There are also members of the English medieval progressive rock band Gryphon, Graeme Taylor, Malcolm Bennett, Dave Oberlé on one of the songs.
Beginnings (LP, Album). As always with Howe, the guitar work is simply masterful. Along with White's drumming and Moraz's piano on some songs, some of them really seem (to me, at least) like decent Yes songs. This comes second to Chris Squire's "Fish Out Of Water" in my rankings of the Yes solo albums of the time.
